Terra Viva — portrait

Galicia, Spain · est. 2014

Ana and Sergio Vázquez founded Terra Viva in 2014 on a cattle farm their family had stopped using outside Lugo. They started with a single 40-metre worm bed; today there are twelve, each a few years older than the last, fed only by the farm's own composted dairy waste and locally collected oak leaf. Their living soil base is the most-shipped item on NATURAGROW, and the recipe hasn't changed since 2017.

— THE PROCESS —

How it actually gets made.

01

Twelve worm beds, each a different age. The oldest started in 2014; nothing has been emptied since.

02

Oak-leaf collection, late autumn. Sourced within five kilometres of the farm.

03

Screening castings by hand. Never sterilised, never heat-treated.

04

Mixing the Living Soil base. Composted bark, castings, basalt, kelp — and that's the whole list.

05

Kraft-bagged on-site. No warehouse middle layer.
