Veil
Slow-burn hemp papers, pressed in Catalonia.
Barcelona, Spain · Founded 2016
Barcelona, Spain · est. 2016
Veil presses every sheet of their hemp paper in a 1920s building in the Poble Sec neighbourhood of Barcelona. Founder Clara Roselló bought the building's original Czech paper press at auction in 2016 and has been pressing on it ever since. The hemp comes from a cooperative in the Pyrenees foothills. The gum arabic is from the same supplier her grandmother used for bookbinding.
— THE PROCESS —
How it actually gets made.
The 1920s Czech press. Restored, still pressing, never replaced.
Hemp fibre from the Pyrenees. Washed, retted, ready.
Gum arabic, dissolved by hand. Never industrial adhesive.
Cutting to King Size. The original measuring blocks still in use.
Kraft sleeves, folded one at a time.
— SOURCING STANDARD —
Every test, passed.
Certifications held
